Welcome to DWN’s Match of the Day! Fall Brawl 1995 was so friggin’ good, man. At least in my memory it is – I only went back and checked out this one match this time. But just on paper, it’s gold. Johnny B. Badd and Brian Pillman going for near 30 minutes in a #1 contenders match for the U.S. Championship. Sgt. Pittman rappelling in from the rafters to attack Cobra. A Hulkamaniacs/Dungeon of Doom WarGames match. I guess if you didn’t grow up watching wrestling in that era, you’ll probably HATE that last one, but it’s pure gold to me. Nothing makes me feel five years old again harder than matches like that.
Anyways, none of those matches are the ones I want to talk about here. I want to talk about what might be one of the best WCW matches in 1995: Ric Flair vs. Arn Anderson.
As any wrestling fan knows, these guys were best friends and long-standing partners in the Four Horsemen. However, in 1995, the duo’s friendship began to dissolve, and this resulted in a match between Anderson and Flair in the fall of 1995. Ultimately the storyline was just an excuse to bring together a new version of the Four Horsemen, but the match itself was pretty solid. I’ve seen a lot of people call it weak for what it could have been, and it’s arguable that they did maybe get a bit too much time for the time period (not my personal opinion, but I can understand that argument). However, I think the match is one of the better professional wrestling matches in 1995 WCW, and it’s well worth giving a watch. Check it out!
