I passed the Cisco 100-105 exam two months ago, and I would like to share my experience with you. I hope that I can inspire you and provide you with the most valuable information that will help you pass this certification test with flying colors. I hope it assists you. Read on!
Some words about the exam
Cisco 100-105 or Interconnecting Cisco Networking Devices Part 1 is a test associated with the CCENT, CCNA R&S, CCNA Security, and CCNA Wireless certifications. This ICND1 exam validates that you have the skills and knowledge related to LAN switching technologies, infrastructure services, network fundamentals, infrastructure maintenance, and routing technologies. The total number of questions in this test is 45-55, and you are supposed to answer all of them within 90 minutes.
How the exam looked like
The total number of questions in my Cisco 100-105 exam was 54, and there were two simulations. Each simulation contained 4 questions. Since I had prepared well in all aspects of this test, time was not actually an issue. In fact, I ended my exam 30 minutes earlier, and nothing bugged me.
As expected, there was an option of a “flag for later review” in the Person VUE Cisco exam, and there was a very conspicuous confirmation – “Are you sure you want to end the exam?”. After answering all the questions, I simply clicked on this confirmation.
My biggest challenge
100-105 ICND1 was my very first Cisco certification exam. So, I was very anxious during my preparation and when I was just about to take the test. Even though I had prepared adequately and I have very many years of experiencing working in network security and server virtualization fields, I still felt uncertain.
Due to my experience, I had some basic knowledge about Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking. Even though I had mastered the theory part of this exam extremely well, I lacked prior administration experience. I also had no experience on setting up network-side device practically.
I expected to have a rough time with questions related to infrastructure maintenance and services. So, I did the necessary – I focused more on these topic areas during the preparation period.
How I prepared for the Cisco 100-105 exam
I was able to pass my exam because I prepared well. I also used the best preparation materials. In other words, thorough and systematic preparation using the best quality materials is the key to passing this Cisco test. Without much ado, let me show you how I prepared for this certification exam.
• I found out the objectives: First, I found out what the exam objectives were before I settled down to study any material related to it. The best thing with the Cisco 100-105 test is that everything is revealed in the objectives. After going through them, I got a clear picture of what should be expected in the real exam.
• I came up with a great study plan: Before I started preparing for the exam, I constructed a study plan that was best for me. In my blueprint, I included all the exam topics, sub topics, and all the areas that are usually covered in the test. I included revision times, and I never studied continuously without revising the previous topics.
• I read Cisco books: Reading Cisco study guides and books helped me a lot in grasping the content of the exam. It was a good thing that finding the 100-105 books was not a problem. In fact, I found a lot of guides online and at my local library. I found 101 Labs for Cisco CCNA Exam 100-105 and 200-125 extremely helpful. It contains every detail of the exam objectives, and the exam topics were well elaborated and written in a very simple language.
• I took a mock test: After studying well for this exam, I decided to take a mock test to find out how I would perform. I chose the PrepAway Cisco CCENT Practice Test Questions Part 10 100-105 Exam and scored only 60%. The marks I got was like an eye-opener because it made me realize that I was still very weak and my chances of acing the Cisco 100-105 exam were very minimal.
Even though I had an in-depth understanding of the exam objectives, exam topics, and the skills and knowledge tested, I still could not pass the test. I realized that it was due to the fact that I wasn’t familiar with the exam format and how to answer the questions. I also failed because I didn’t know how to manage my time well, as I ran out of time before attempting all the questions. In simple terms, taking the mock test helped me identify my weak areas and exposed me to how the real exam looks like.
I signed up for the exam
When I was convinced that I had prepared enough and I was ready to face the real exam, I signed up for the 100-105 test through Person VUE. I was then scheduled to take the exam in a week’s time. I browsed through the official website of Person VUE and I was able to find the Cisco test center just a kilometer drive from my residential home. Before the exam date, I did many other test questions and mock exams to be more familiar with the types of questions I would likely find in the real test.
It was on a Friday morning when I finally took my Cisco 100-105 test and I literally got everything examsnap.com. Yes, you heard me – I got 100%. I am now a proud CCENT certified professional.
The Cisco 100-105 exam is not actually as difficult as it sounds. Furthermore, it’s an entry-level test, which means that those who make it do not expect the candidates to answer the questions like professionals. All you need is do what I did, or even more, and you will be good to go. I wish you all the best!
