Today I Learned… WWE Main Event 209 and WWE Superstars 392

Hi there, Jake here. Coming at you with another edition of Today I Learned. This one will cover the unwanted cousin shows of the WWE, Main Event and Superstars. Superstars is as up to date as possible, but Main Event is on a delay so we get an episode from around 18 days ago. WWE doesn’t put pictures or video on their main site to even acknowledge these shows, so we picked up the slack. This is a little late because WWE Network was attacked.

Today I Learned… WWE Main Event Episode 209 September 27th, 2016

Apollo Crews vs. Tyler Breeze

*This brings me back to NXT of yesteryear.

*Madagascar is now Tyler Breeze’s seasonal residence.

*Tyler isn’t wearing his puffy shirt. David Otunga says that the shirts were a taste of the Breezango fashion line.

*Otunga is trying to get the “Jackrobat” nickname going for Apollo Crews, because he is an acrobat and is jacked.

*Tom Phillips mentions their NXT history which is fantastic. During a basic match like this, it’s a relieve that the commentary is entertaining and insightful.

*Tyler Breeze slipped out of a 10 punch in the corner and superkicked the back of Apollo’s leg, which changed the momentum of the match dramatically.

*Apollo sells the leg while doing everything, offense and defense. It’s almost jarring to see how much he is selling the leg. It’s storytelling at it’s finest.

*Crews is trying his flippy stuff but his leg keeps giving out.. Tyler doesn’t have much offense that is based on leg work but the few things he does have, he does them well.

*Apollo was still able to hit his powerbomb for the win.

Baron Corbin vs. Kane

*There is a long collar and elbow portion to the beginning of the match. David Otunga is busy talking about Respek

*Kane is striking Corbin ridiculously and the strikes looks stiff. David Otunga says you can’t let Kane gain momentum, he knows this because Curtis Axel and David Otunga beat Kane and Big Show for the tag titles long ago.

*After five minutes Corbin still didn’t get offense in. To see the juxtaposition between Corbin now and Corbin 3 weeks ago is shocking.

*About ten minutes in they do a yay/boo spot and the crowd is finally starting to react to the match.

*Corbin kept getting manhandled so he ended up taking a chair to the leg of Kane for a disqualification.

Alicia Fox vs. Nia Jax

*So this is where Alicia and Nia went. I was wondering why they weren’t on Raw.

*With Dana Brooke, Charlotte, Sasha Banks and Bayley on Raw, and the Survivor Series match needing 5 women, if you add Nia, how can they not win?

*Alicia gets a sleeper on Nia and the crowd pops pretty big for it.

*Alicia gets in a lot of offense and is able to hit her patented scissor kick for a two count.

*Nia wins with a body slam throw into a Samoan drop. Another new finisher for Jax.

Jinder Mahal vs. Darren Young w/ Bob Backlund

*This match seems to happen a lot.

*YUGE chants of “USA” to start the match off and it distracts Jinder.

*”Let’s Go Darren” takes over the arena and it’s surprising how much fans are cheering for Mr. No Days Off

*This match is basic, but the crowd loves it. They boo when they need to and whenever Darren is in a headlock or chinlock they cheer and chant for him.

*Mahal has been talking about how he will “beat innerpeace into his opponents.”

*Would you rather be Titus O’Neil and have exposure on Raw but lose, or Darren Young and be on a show with a fraction of the audience but win?
